The Five Pavilions was where royal family members ascended the hill and enjoyed the cool air, built during the Qianlong reign of the Qing dynasty. A statue of Vairocana Buddha used to be enshrined in the central Wanchun Pavilion.
The central Wanchun Pavilion is the highest-ranking building among the Five Pavilions. It is square in plan, with a tented roof and triple-eaves. The eaves are covered with tiles of yellow glaze and trimmed with green-glazed tiles. The two pavilions in each group stand opposite each other and descend to either side to highlight the dominance of the Axis.
